Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Touring the Cove

An 11-mile, one-way loop road circles the cove, offering motorists the opportunity to sightsee at a leisurely pace. Allow at least two to four hours to tour Cades Cove, longer if you walk some of the area’s trails. Traffic is heavy during the tourist season in summer and fall and on weekends year-round. While driving the loop road, please be courteous to other visitors and use pullouts when stopping to enjoy the scenery or view wildlife.

An inexpensive self-guiding tour booklet available at the entrance to the road provides a map and information about the cove.
Only bicycle and foot traffic are allowed on the loop road until 10:00 a.m. every Saturday and Wednesday morning from early May until late September. Otherwise the road is open to motor vehicles from sunrise until sunset daily, weather permitting.

Ober Gatlinburg

Enjoy all 4 seasons of Mountaintop excitement!

Anakeesta is a Cherokee Indian word referring to high ground, literally meaning “the place of the balsams.”

Today, the word is most often associated with a massive rock layer known as the Anakeesta Formation that encompasses many of the peaks in our part of the Smoky Mountains. You can see it high above Gatlinburg in Charlie’s Bunion, Chimney Tops, and Mount Kephart. We chose the name Anakeesta to capture the authentic Smokies heritage that our guests will experience among the treetops at the summit of Anakeesta Mountain. Anakeesta is located on 70 acres of pristine forested land nestled in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg.

The Villages

Just past traffic light #6, adjacent to the Pancake Pantry, lies one of Gatlinburg’s most memorable shopping experiences, “The Village”. Here you will find a collection of 27 unique shops and eateries set in a quaint European village atmosphere. The brick pathways, abundant landscaping and bubbling fountains provide a tranquil escape from Parkway traffic. Tucked away in this quaint haven are gift and specialty shops, clothiers, galleries and eateries that break away from the cookie cutter variety of retailers to which most of us have become acquainted. Whether you’re looking for a remembrance of your visit or something refreshing to eat or drink, you will find it here. Grab a Village directory as you enter the distinctive brick archway and discover the diversity of these 27 special establishments. A visit to Gatlinburg will not be complete without a stop in The Village. Make sure you visit all 27 shops. You will not be disappointed!

Dollywood offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains and the incredible spirit of its people, all at a place fun for all ages.
